in honor of this festive time of year, we are giving away a "trees", fandex. they are great way to identify all the leaves that are finding their way onto our nature table...:)
to enter, simply leave a comment about one of your favorite autumn tradition & on october 20th (my birthday! :) our boys will draw the name of our lucky winner...
Apple picking. We've done it since our oldest was 2 and it's one of the best family traditions we've ever started. My children look forward it every year.
ReplyDeleteEach autumn we make a pumpkin pie from pumpkins we grow ourselves, the children plant the seeds, tend the pumpkin, watch it grow, pick it, scoop the insides out, prepare it and we share the pie on the night we carve our halloween jack-o lantern. :) Thanks so much....Blessings, A
ReplyDeleteoops the above comment meant not to post anonymously ( posting about pumpkin growing, pie making...)
ReplyDeleteIt may be simple, but our favorite tradition is our leaf collecting walks. My girls, even the older ones, love to go each year and see how many different kinds they can find. This year they are making a scrapbook of them for the younger ones.
ReplyDeleteProbably raking up all the leaves and spending the afternoon jumping in them with my Sprouts. :)
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that one of the big autumn events we look forward to is our trip to the "Pumpkin Patch"! There's a corn maze that we love, a walking path through the flowers that leads to a big scarecrow and storytime about scarecrows. Then we go to the big barn to pick out squash and pumpkins both for making pumpkin pies and our jack-o-lanterns. It kind of feels like an autumn kick-off :D
ReplyDeleteWe like going to the pick-your-own farm for apples and pumpkins.
ReplyDeleteI just moved from NM to AK and what our favorite thing to do each autumn was attend the pumpkin chunkin contests in a tiny town near us. We would all build catapults and see who could shoot the pumpkin the farthest!
ReplyDeleteGod bless

The fandex is a really neat idea. Did you make it? What I love about autumn is pumpkins. Pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins! I love visiting a pumpkin patch with pumpkins growing on a vine, stacked around hay bales and lined up down paths. My hubby and I bake pumpkin pies and burn the seeds everytime when trying to roast them!
ReplyDeleteWe like to go to a pumpkin patch to choose our pumpkins, go for a hayride at a farm near us and this year we're dipping leaves in wax which will be a new tradition :)
ReplyDeletecamping
ReplyDeleteEven though winter is around the corner in Northern MN, we still head to Lake Superior for my birthday (11-1) for a family camping trip (and we end up with the entire campground to ourselves!)
I work for a local farm running their CSA. My daughter and I love going to the farm and celebrating the harvest by checking out where the veggies are grown, and actually harvesting a few ourselves. It's a great learning experience for her - she gets to see how our food grows and how it's harvested. And we have fun doing it!
ReplyDeleteOur favorite fall tradition is collecting the fall leaves and doing various craft projects with them. We have a lot of fun with them:)

Nice blog! We love everything about autumn-- collecting the acorn caps, the conkers, apples, and stocking up on winter squash... but mostly, we love the leaves. The most beautiful ones adorn our homemade lanterns. The kids and I spend time raking together, catching falling leaves, and making leaf crowns.
ReplyDeleteOur autumn tradition is visiting as many organic farm harvest festivals as possible...we live in the Chicago area so this year we visited 5 farms in IL, WI, and MI in 3 weekends...just me and my 3 & 4 year old kids. :)
ReplyDeleteAutumn walks... with the skies so blue feeling desperate to soak in all the sunshine before the long grey days of winter begin. Our favorite is Fort Hill in Eastham. An old sea captain's farm set upon a hill surrounded by the wild Alantic ocean.
ReplyDeleteApple picking unknowingly became our autumn tradition few years back, but now we are also adding acorns picking to the list. There are so many on the to-do list - making apple pies, collecting the beautiful leaves, raking and so forth. I'm always in awe of what nature can produce during this time of the year. Undeniably, Autumn is the family's favourite season.
ReplyDeletehello, there. this is a wonderful blog! i have a grade four kid this year, so am so inspired by your norse myths blocks that i peeked at. thank you! i'd say apple picking, harvesting, wood gathering, etc. are the yearly rituals we enjoy. hanging out in the stunning foliage whenever possible, too:)
ReplyDeleteAutumn ummmm, just the word is Yummy... I have a Love affair with the fall time of year, it is cozy, warm and smells the best. I think our favorite tradition centering around this time of year is centered around food. We ususally have a gathering of friends and or family this time of year and celebrate it's richness. Some Butternut Squash soup with nutmeg and cream, Apple raisin spice bread with butter, and a rich roast with potatoes and carrots. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say apple picking and getting out the "warm" clothes! Julie Ann
ReplyDeleteI love finding your blog, its so inspiring
ReplyDeleteMy kids are 2 and 3 soon to be 3 and 4 in the next couple months and I have been reading and trying to apply the waldorf rhythmn into our lives. We love to visit the cindrella pumpkin patch to pick out pumpkins for fall decorations and the bob evans farm festival in ohio. Fall is a festive time of year and we wish we could make it to all of them but its just not possible, thank you for taking the time to post
Ours is a latern walk through our woods with a fire and cidar afterwards! Oh thanks for introducing James Morrison to me.

Autumn is my favorite season and the most wonderful aspect is definitely the gorgeous color-changing of the leaves. Taking walks on days when the sky provides an intense blue background for the golds, oranges, and reds with the sun shining through them make the trees absolutely luminescent! Collecting the leaves and making garlands and wreaths to decorate the house is a new tradition we just started. And of course raking up piles and jumping in them is the kids' favorite. If by chance I'm not lucky enough to have your boys draw my name, then please let me know where to find that wonderful fandex. We were just saying on our last walk/leaf collecting expedition that we really needed something to identify the tree types! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteHappy Fall,
Lisa
