sorghum gathering...(10.21)

last year our friends received a grant to build a sorghum processing set-up. everything is man/animal powered...it is awesome!

we are blessed to know so many families that are "keeping it real" the simple, old-fashioned way. it is inspiring to be surrounded by like minded families, each doing their best to integrate a bit more homemade, self-sufficiency into our lives...

  1. This is so wonderful. We are also working towards a more self-sustaining lifestyle, incorporating old fashioned skills into our daily lives. Warm wishes.

  2. isn't it funny how all this 'progression' is really just another stip in the WRONG direction??

people are always amazed, myself included, at the craftyness of mamas...how they can make their own furnishings, sew their own children's clothes...what?? you bake your own bread!

if this now how our forefathers lived?? and it was not "craftiness", but necessity...survival.

at the samhain celebration we attended i marveled at how a fire was stared with nothing but tinder and a few bits of stick...should we not all know these basic skills?
