*introduction to fractions, whole to parts
-using clay/salt make 2 eballs of equal size, keep one as 'whole", divide other into parts (1/2s, 1/3s, 1/4s, 1/5s, etc...make sure parts are equal!)

*practice porblems of recognizing whole to parts

wednesday, october 7th

main lesson:

*copy work: "all good things come to those who wait."

*cont w/frations introduction; introduce terms
a)denmiator = "d" = downstairs = parts in whole
b)numerator= number of parts

*plan & draw our a garden, intro with story
-on 12" x 12" paper (or other large) draw perimeter; divide in 1/4 (measure!), 1/4 = grains
-divide grains into 1/3s (corn, wheat, oat)
1/4 = vegetables
-divide into 1/5s (beans, potatoes, asparagus, etc)
1/4 = fruit, and 1/4 = flowers (let them decide how to divide & what to 'plant' :)

lesson b:
baking, homemade mini pizzas
-divide bag of cheese amoung 4 mini pizzas, " w/pepperoni, tomatoes, etc, etc

thursday, october 8th
(read on own, "children of odin", 45 min)

main lesson:
*copy work: "a picture is worth a thousand words."

*finish work on garden...

*practice problems; simple (+) & (-) of fractions
__ = 1/3 + 1/3, __ = 5/6 - 3/6, etc...

*painting day; paint circles, again whole & parts
1 whole circle, another of equal size in 1/3s, " w/1/4s, and maybe one more?
