chicken sitting...:)

our friends have gone to cape cod to visit family for the next month, and we are caring for their chickens while they are away.


there are 11 hens, 1 rooster, & 4 chicks. the chickens are in a 'chicken tractor' that we move around the yard 1/2x per day; the chickens get fresh grass to munch & the yard gets loads of fertilizer.


we get to keep all the eggs that are laid & any chicks that hatch. there is one mama bird who will collect all the eggs laid and try to hatch them out. so, today 4 were laid...we gathered both them & the mama bird up & moved her to her own mini coop. we are hoping that all four will hatch & we'll have the beginning of our own little brood. :)

happy birthday orin!!

orin, our eldest, turns 9 today! happy birthday orin...

we will wait until this saturday to actually celebrate his birthday, so papa can enjoy the festivities as well...

aydin's fire...

we had our neighbor over for smores the other night...it was great! and today, aydin built his own "fire teepee" underneath the hemlocks...

he put so much work into it, and it really is just grand. i love the details...hemlock cones (the starter), and the larger spruce cones on the outer rim (to contain the fire)...

while i made our sunday brunch, the ehren & aydin made me brunch! it was delicious! :)
